A 60-day journey around the Land Down Under is being halted days after the fatal incident of an elderly woman who was abandoned by the cruise liner on a distant tropical isle.

The passenger had been walking on the remote island with other travelers from the Coral Adventurer, but parted ways from the group for a pause. The vessel departed without her and came back later that day after the crew realised the passenger was not present.

An extensive hunt discovered her person the subsequent day.

Authorities are examining the event, in coordination with investigators and the official investigator.

The CEO of the cruise operator stated that passengers and personnel on the ship were informed that the continuation of the journey had been called off due to the "sad loss and earlier engine troubles".

Via official communication, he added that travelers would be given a full refund, and said the operator was working "to coordinate the travel back of the passengers via specially arranged planes".

Authorities also released an latest statement, and said they had "provided a order to the Captain" banning any further travelers from getting on the liner.

The spokesperson said that they would inspect the vessel in Cairns upon its coming back.

Timeline of Incidents

The ship first departed the Australian port on the 24th of October, and was just two days into the journey at the moment of the 80-year-old's demise. The remote island was the initial destination on the itinerary.

Passengers on the ship - who generally pay tens of thousands of money to take part in the expedition - were taken there for a shore visit with the option of hiking or snorkeling.

Family Statement

The child of the victim said that her family was "surprised and grieved that the ship left Lizard Island after an organised tour without my mum".

Through her comments, she described her mum as an "active 80-year-old" who was a participant of a walking organization.

"Based on limited details we have been provided, it seems that there was a failure of attention and basic judgment," she mentioned.

She added that she desired the inquiry would be able to determine what "the organization should have undertaken that might have saved Mum's life".

"According to reports from the investigators that it was a very hot afternoon, and she fell ill on the uphill trek," she revealed.

"She was asked her to head down, unescorted. Then the boat sailed away, apparently without conducting a roll call.

"During some point in that process, or not long after, mum passed away, by herself."

Company Response

In a statement, the Head affirmed that the company was "cooperating fully with authorities to support their investigation".

He said that the organization was "extremely apologetic that this has occurred" and had offered its full support to the family.

Maritime Business Standards

The ship accommodates up to a hundred twenty passengers with 46 staff, according to company details. It was purpose-built to enter isolated locations of the Australian coastline and is outfitted with "tenders" - small boats used to transport individuals on land visits.

Incidents such as this are uncommon, and cruise ships have protocols to record which passengers are getting on or disembarking, according to industry experts.

"Going ashore secretly or [back] onboard just isn't an option," one expert commented.

Vessel operators take these procedures extremely carefully and have "clever tech in place to stop such events from happening," the expert further stated.

"This is probably a surprising - and tragic - isolated incident."
